The ever-developing air travel and telecommunication technology in the 20th century created enormous momentum for contacts across the globe. Now, even the remote island of Tahiti in the south Pacific is expected to welcome thousands of holidaymakers in its busiest season and the local residents can make a fortune from it. This is symbolic of the internationally fast growing touri* and business resulting from the increased global communication. This development produces some positive effects, in the sense that people van make contact with those from varying cultures and be more informed about the world, and that for underdeveloped societies, their residents will have the opportunity to learn sophisticated business experience, with the many managers sent to these areas by multinational companies.

But societies will not necessarily benefit from this change, due to the risk of losing integrity. In comparisons with their looks decades ago when they were still untouched, many places have become less distinctive. To cater to foreign travelers, those places had to take on a commercially appealing appearance , with the result that their original features are largely or even totally missing.

In most cases, their attempt is to assign local societies with specific roles like resources suppliers and product importers. This means that the inhabitants there would not be able to decide what to produce and by for their own sake. It would lead to the lack of independence and these societies would be rather vulnerable to economic crisis.

Therefore, I cannot totally support the position that closer contact with people from other countries is beneficial since it can also cause damages to societies both culturally and economically.
