Some people believe that university education should focus on the skills of employment for the future. Others think should focus academic study only. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.

题目大意:

有人说大学教育应该注重职场技能。其他人认为大学教育应该只关注学术知识。讨论双边观点,给出你的立场。

思路:

  • 双边讨论类的题目,可以自由讨论双方各自的利弊,我的观点可以是中立或单边支持。

  • 这道题目中双边观点完全对立,建议选择单边支持或两边都支持会比较好写

  • 这道题目中,甲方认为大学要注重培养职场需要的实用技能;而乙方认为的大学应该仅仅教授学术知识——两种观点都有其合理性;

提纲梳理如下:

范文

There is a belief that universities should aim exclusively at academic courses, while others convict that tertiary education should focus on vocational skills with reference to employment. From my perspective, both views can be considered justified – it is oversimplified to venerate either opinion over the other.

On the one hand, there are reasons as to why some people place high emphasis on academic contents as opposed to practical knowledge related to job hunting in university. For those who think in this way, they assume that the campus should be a place which cultivates young minds to be intellects and contributive member of society with reference to academic studies, whether it these be in scientific or humane realms. Based on this conviction, it is believed that only by delivering academic knowledge can universities achieve this goal.

While the above statement does have its role to play in a sense, I would also agree with the view that tertiary education should serve as an access to successful personal careers from a utilitarian perspective. Those focusing exclusively on the academic implications of college learning have generalized their presupposition about the task of tertiary education. What they are oblivious to is the multiple roles universities play in reality – instead of a pure place for cultivating intellectuals, universities also act as an incubator for intelligent workers needed by the real business; it is also a key reason why youngsters choose to attend universities. With respect to this, it is imperative for colleges to initiate occupation-centered courses which are conducive to students’ career prospects.

From what has been discussed above, it is my conclusion therefore, universities should be a multi-functional institute which provides students with both academic and vocational knowledge.
