雅思听力之逆向思维解题法（1）

雅思听力考试中，听前读题时间对考成功与否往往起着至关重要的作用。如何才能有效利用这有限的时间做出合理的预测？笔者在反复的雅思教学中摸索出一种不错的解决办法——逆向思维解题法（“反其道而思之”），发散性逆向思考已知信息，确定所提问题的答案的必要条件，推测说话人会提及的两种或多种可能性，从而排除混淆信息，缩小选择范围或直接锁定正确答案。本文将会从剑桥复习资料4-8中选取典型实例，全面展示逆向思维解题法在时间、条件、数量、关联词等方面的具体应用。

1. 时间

① Cambridge 4 Test 3 Section 1
Q3 Present course                      ________ English
解决填空题除推测所填词的词性和词类外，还应意识到潜在的含义，预知说话人将会提及的相关信息。一般，同学们都能推测出所填词应为形容词，而且因为是course“课程”所以还得考虑大写的问题，但却往往会忽略present。既然题目不仅仅是问course，那present就有存在的意义和目的。顺着这个思路就应想到说话人会提到past或是future，形成时间上的对立性。

② Cambridge 4 Test 3 Section 2
Q11  When is this year’s festival being held?
A  1-13 January
B  5-17 January
C  25-31 January
做选择题关键是得找对关键词。这个单选题中的关键词是……when？可三个选项都是时间。Festival？可它是整篇报道的中心。Being held？太抽象，不是明确信息。确立this year为关键词的理由很明确，既然是要确定今年的举办的时间，那录音中必定会提及去年或是以前的情况，这样的逆向思维让解题思路更加清楚。

Qs 18-20 Which THREE attractions can you visit at present by train from Trebirch?

对于选项多达七个的多项选择题很多同学往往会不知所措，因为一般情况下这些选项在录音中都会被提及，只能使用排除法，但以什么为排除的依据呢？“at present”为解题给出了提示，凡是过去或是将来才能去的景点项目就可以排除。逆向思维的应用巧妙排除混淆信息，缩小选择范围。
原文：… you can … in the zoo, which is set in the parkland that used to surround the old castle; … climbing wall built on the site on the old aquarium; … the science museum opens next year …

2. 条件

① Cambridge 5 Test 2 Section 1
Q3  Cost to join per year(without current student card): _________
Q4  Number of items allowed(members of public):__________
这两题括号中的限定条件是逆向思维的可能性和必要性。Q3的括号里明确指出 “没有学生证”，其隐含意思就是学生入会的年费的收费标准不一样；Q4 的括号里也有备注“普通民众”，意味着学生能借书的数额会被提及。其实，还可以再往前走一步。“没有学生证”的人入会的费用肯定高，而“普通民众”可借书的数额通常小。于是，这两题就被简化成Q3大数、Q4小数。

原文：… we allow 12 items if you’re a student … it’s only 8 items for members of the public .

题目中的关键词应为intended，而不是length of stay，因为如果只是问“待多久”，根本不需要intended这个词。Intended意为“计划、想要”，与“实际情况”形成语意对立。遵循逆向思维便可预知说话人会提及她实际所待时间。

③ Cambridge 5 Test1 Section 1
Qs 5-6  Which TWO things are included in the price of the tour?
A  fishing trip
B  guided bushwalk
C  reptile park entry
D  table tennis
选项为简单短语的多选题的所有选项在录音中通常都会被提及，排除法虽繁琐但却是有效的方法。但问题是题目中并没有明确的排除条件信息。逆向思维为解题提供隐性的排除条件—— 所有要自己花钱的项目都可以排除。
原文：… fishing trip. That’s on an extra $12 ; … a reptile park … that costs more or less the same ; … tennis… you have to pay for those buy the hour …
