Future, in many cultures of the world, represents promising hope, positive change and optimistic prospect. Hence, some strongly suggest that for both individuals and countries more emphasis should be placed on planning the future than grasping the present. In my mind, their viewpoint is far from our realistic world.

As for a country, both of these are of equal significance. While making development planning, governments certainly need to *yze their current national conditions thoroughly and elaborately for understanding the nation’s advantages and disadvantages. Take a developing country as an example, blindly pursuing a high-welfare society might be wrong, since they overlook the current social problem they are facing, the huge population of low-income class. Similarly, ignoring the future, their plans can be aimless and shortsighted. They ought to bravely and decisively project the future, for achieving the sustainable development of the nation. That is why many oil exporting countries nowadays are in their economic transformation period.

In terms of individuals, these two strategies are also complementary to each other. Only by clearly understanding our own pros and cons, are we capable of realizing what we are good at and what we are unable to do. An instance in point is that a high-school student, envisioning his wonderful college life, has to study hard at present for gaining a better performance in university entrance examination. His dreams of future, otherwise, will vanish into the air. Meanwhile, his expectation for the future can become the driving force to push him to forge ahead and finally attain his goal.

In summary, according to what has been *yzed above, both planning the future and focusing on the present are imperative and essential. This situation is like a see-saw, and with more weight on either end, the balance will be broken.
