一、假设与举例结合

通常情况下，举例论证大都是默认举实例，其实我们也可以讲虚拟的例子以假设的形式举出。一般情况下需要设想好或坏的结果来使论证更有说服力。这些例子作为论据由for example, for instance, like, such as, take… as ?等引出。

如：To do this, we need to improve the choice of public transport services available to travelers. For example, if sufficient sky trains and underground train systems were built and effectively maintained in our major cities, then traffic on the roads would be dramatically reduced.

本例中，for example 引出“sufficient sky trains and underground train systems”。For instance 与它的用法完全相同，即后面要接句子例证。 Like, such as, take…as 等直接名词或名次态短语。当然考生也可以运用如下替换词：…is a case in point; …serve as a typical example;…can be taken as an example; one example is that… another one is that等。

二、实例

实例是常规举例中的必要素材和手段，现在雅思作文的要求中也会出现如下要求：Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience. 也就是说个人实力和数据都是可以被认可的举例方式。

1、人物经历

中国考生比较喜欢用名人事例，其实相比而言，作者自己的亲身经历要更好一点。如：I remember that 10 years ago mobile phones were unusual and seldom seen. 因为人物经历作例子因为其较强的故事性而引人关注。并且名人作为常人中的特例，他们身上使用的例子可能未必具有普遍性。有人物经历的好处是一定会给人以非常明确的细节信息的感觉，更有说服力。

2、数据列举

数据信息，可以使说明的观点更具体、更详细，并传递量化的概念，给人感觉更专业。如：

Ad is an effect way to develop economy. As is calculated by the Statistic Bureau of China, 80% of the products in China are promoted and marketed by ads, which has brought almost 20 billion incomes as the tax to the country.

80%和20billion可以让说明更具体，更容易让人产生实感及共鸣。

三、事实

某些专有名词代指的人事物，由于它们的广泛认知性，可以让读者在看到它们时能联想到它们是某一类具有相同特征的典型，那么举例的效果也就不言而喻了。如：Green house effect is increasingly becoming the main environmental contamination of government and citizen' concern all over the world. From London and New York to Shanghai and Tokyo, new solutions to this old problem are being provided and implemented at amazing speed. 同理，书名，人名，地名，期刊杂志都有同样用法。
