一、教育的目的

Some people think that studying in a college or university is the best way for students to prepare for future career. But others think they should leave school as soon as possible to develop their career through work experience. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people think universities should provide knowledge and skills related to a future career; others think the true function of university is to give access to knowledge for its own sake. What is your opinion of the main function of university?

以上两个topic都在阐述上大学（教育）到底有什么作用，教育对将来对职业而言有什么意义。通过归类，可以将教育的目的分成五个主要方面，即德、智、体、美、劳。(1). 从“德（Moral）”方面来说，教育可以提高学生的道德标准（improve one’s moral standard）。(2). 从“智（Intellectual）”方面来说，教育可以让学生学习理论知识、基础知识、专业知识（acquire theoretical knowledge, fundamental knowledge & professional knowledge），从而为将来的职业发展奠定一个坚实的基础（provide a solid foundation for future development）；培养学生立思考、造性思考、批判思考的能力 （independent thinking & creative thinking & critical thinking）；培养学生分析和解决问题的能力（*ytical skills & problem-solving ability）；提高人际交往能力和社交技能（improve interpersonal & social skills）等等。(3). 从“体（Physical）”方面来说，教育可以帮助学生养成良好的生活习惯（healthy lifestyle）以及不断提高身体素质（develop physical fitness）。(4). 从“美（Beauty）方面来说，教育可以提高学生对文学和艺术的欣赏能力（enhance one’s appreciation of arts & literature）；提升自我修养（improve self-cultivation）”。(5). 从“劳（Work）”方面来说，教育可以使学生学习实际技能，从而更好地适应新环境（practical skills, to adapt to the new environment more easily）。

而工作能够带来的好处是：(1). 提供机会将理论知识和专业技能应用到实践中（provide opportunities to apply and practise their theoretical knowledge & technical skills ）；(2). 增加人们对于自己的职业竞争力的信心（help people to gain confidence in their professional competence）；(3). 提高沟通能力与合作能力等社会技能（improve their social skills such as communication skills and cooperative skills）；(4). 磨练人们管理时间的技能和同时处理多项任务的能力（hone people’s time-management skills and multitasking skills），其中multitasking skills是近几年来开始在西方企业文化里备受重视的技能，尽管大学里的学习对学生的time-management skills和multitasking skills也会有提高，但是在工作中，人们这两项能力通常都会更加显著。而且，当前社会，人们的成功，特别是经济上的成功，并不是由一个人的教育背景所决定的（one’s success, especially financial success, is not determined by his/her educational background），比如比尔.盖茨。

二、教育的内容
