Many people do not know their neighbours today and they feel community spirit is weak in the neighbourhood. This essay will examine reasons for this problem and propose according solutions.

Firstly, modern building styles discourage people to strengthen the bond between neighbours. Modern people tend to live in blocks of apartment where there are few public places to hold group activities. As a result, the residents will feel isolated and have no chance to communicate with neighbors.

Secondly, modern citizens usually immerse themselves in a fast-paced way of life. As most of them have a heavy workload, they prefer staying at home and browsing the Internet by themselves, after they return from work, to chatting with their neighbours; this is also because they have litte energy to do so.

In addition, moving and relocating their households also reduces the time of having a light conversation with their neighbors.

Thirdly, there are many and various forms of entertainment, such as surfing the Internet, playing online games and being involved in a party, so few people would like to spend time taking a stroll in the community, which is another reason giving rise to the unfamiliarity between  neighbours.

To start with, architects should add more public spaces into modern residential buildings. Thus, it enables residents to participate in more community activities, strengthening the ties between neighbors.

What is more, those who have a heavy workload are supposed to spend part of their free time getting involved in these activities so as to build a desirable relationship with people who live next door.

Apart from what have been mentioned above, the community council should be responsible of holding more group activities, encouraging residents to communicating and interacting with each other. Community activities can be organized by community schools, concentrating on the matters of common interest or concern.

In conclusion, a good relationship with neighbours and a strong sense of community benefit each resident in a community. Although we can hardly reduce the time spent on work or academic study, we are able to make better use of our spare time to develop strong ties with our neighbours and community.
