The recent 50 years has seen certain changes in our habits of reading and writing by the exploitation of new technology such as TV, Internet and radio. Yet, there remains certain disagreement as to whether this would replace the conventional written words in the future. Personally, I would contend that books will not be taken over by the latest inventions.

Firstly, it seems that readers still prefer receiving education and collecting information through books and written-word materials for their convenience and low price. Despite the distance learning programme—a new teaching method which mainly depend on TVs and the Internet as educational aids—the book is still dominating every schools and colleges all over the world for its portable and relatively affordable. Anther good example is newspapers which people rely on mostly to obtain news rather than watching TV or surfing online because people can read it anywhere any time.

Further and even more importantly, though, it is widely accepted that the book is a symbol of knowledge. For centuries, people have judged books as the most powerful and irreplaceable instructional tools. Most college students tend to write presentations by way of long-hour searching library shelves instead of using the Internet because the

information in the books are more accurate and reliable. Likewise, famous universities like Oxford and Cambridge regard their storage of books in the library as most priceless assets.

By the way of conclusion, I reaffirm that no matter how fast the new technology is developing, it is highly unlikely that written words would disappear in the coming days.
