Rapid population growth is one of the main reasons as well. The high growth rates of urban population have made owning two or even more cars increasingly common to urban families.

Accordingly, solutions to this problem should also be various. Firstly, the government should take some compulsory measures to curb the growth of private cars. For example, license-plate lottery goes a long way in Beijing. Similarly, opening a lane exclusive for public transport also takes effect when coping with this problem….

… The most effective solution, I suppose, is to encourage citizens to take public transport. By which I mean the city council needs to work out an elaborate plan which improves public transport service, because this is part and parcel of the construction of infrastructures.

In conclusion, although the high volume of traffic is a serious problem in urban areas, it can be solved by the construction and running of efficient public transport systems, encouraging citizens to use them more frequently and providing drivers with live traffic updates for road.
