With the increasing demand for energy sources of oil and gas, people should look for sources of oil and gas in remote and untouched natural places.

Do the advantages outweigh disadvantages of damaging such areas?

Oil and gas are two dominant kinds of energy resources. However, with the increasing demand of these sources, some people begin to hold the view that we should look for them in remote and untouched natural places. From my point of view, the advantages fa r outweigh the disadvantages.

It is acknowledged that exploiting the reserves can help solve energy crisis which is an urgent problem that many countries face. In addition, the exploitation is a great opportunity to boost local economy, as the projects need hundreds of local workers, which can help reduce the unemployment rate. Meanwhile, new roads and railway stations would be built for transporting oil and gas, meanwhile facilitating local citizens to travel to other places.

However, the exploitation can result in great damage to the environment, which can be devastating to local citizens and animals. For example, accidents like oil leakage in many countries have killed countless marine creatures. The worse situation is that sea birds which eat fish in polluted areas die from poison. Some incidents even pollute river and soil nearby. In addition, energy crisis cannot be solved in the long run as people take it as granted that there will always be resources available and thus more untouched areas will suffer from constant exploitation. Nevertheless, we can overcome these drawbacks by improving drilling technologies to reduce the damage to local ecosystems.

In summary, it is a reasonable solution to look for resources in those places. However, essential measures should be taken to prevent further damage to local ecosystems.
