*(Gustav Mahler 1860～1911)，奥地利作由家、指挥家。 6 岁起学习钢琴， 1870 年举行首次钢琴独奏会。 1875 年入维也纳音乐学院，师从爱波斯坦学姻琴、富克斯学和声、弗朗兹.克伦学作曲，是布鲁克纳的追随者。音乐学院毕业后，开始指挥生涯，1885年移居布拉 格，1886年又在莱比场担任尼基什的助理指挥。在莱比锡应韦伯后裔之邀，根据 《3个便士》的一些片断创作歌剧，该剧上演后，开始引人注目。同年成为布达佩斯歌剧院首席指挥，1889 年其《第一交响曲》首演。1891年任汉生歌剧院指挥，1894年完成 《第二交响曲》(复活)，1895年在柏林上演。以后*夏天作曲，冬天指挥，他的音乐杖理查·斯特劳斯赏识。1897年弃犹太教而皈依罗马天主教后，成 为维也纳宫廷歌剧院院长。1907年，他在一场论战之后辞去该职，1908年l月l日在美国亮相，在纽约大都会歌剧院指挥《特里斯坦与伊索尔 德》，1909年应聘任新组建的纽约爱乐乐团常任指挥。1907年后，他因心胜病一直处于死亡的阴影之下，1911年因心脏病导致严重的血液感染而病逝。

Gustav Mahler (German pronunciation: [ˈɡʊstaf ˈmaːlɐ]; 7 July 1860 – 18 May 1911) was a late-Romantic Austrian composer and one of the leading conductors of his generation. A Jew, he was born in the village of Kalischt,Bohemia, in what was then the Austrian Empire, now Kaliště in the Czech Republic. His family later removed to nearby Iglau (now Jihlava), where Mahler grew up.

As a composer, Mahler acted as a bridge between the 19th-century Austro-German tradition and the moderni* of the early 20th century. While in his lifetime his status as a conductor was established beyond question, his own music gained wide popularity only after periods of relative neglect which included a ban on its performance in much of Europe during the Nazi era. After 1945 the music was discovered and championed by a new generation of listeners; Mahler then became one of the most frequently performed and recorded of all composers, a position he has sustained into the 21st century.
