Have you ever visited a farm?

Yes, I have visited farms a few times actually. There is an organic vegetable farm just outside Beijing that I go to with my family sometimes. You can eat at a little restaurant there and pick your own vegetables, and learn a little bit about the techniques of organic farming and the health benefits of eating organic fruit and veg. I find this interesting and a refreshing change from the city.

What can you do on a farm?

Well, it depends if you work there or are a visitor! As a visitor, there are a few farms which you can visit. In fact, organic farms are growing in popularity these days, and have become places where people, some people, choose to visit for a weekend day-trip. You can pick your own vegetables there, learn a bit about farming, and enjoy the fresh air and learn a bit about the good sides of country life.

Do you think farming is important?

Farming is absolutely essential. I mean, if you think about it, especially in a country the size of China, there are a lot of mouths to feed, so fruit, vegetables and meat all come from farms. And so farming is really the backbone of a country, because everyone needs good, healthy food to eat!

Are there any farms near your hometown?

There are a few farms on the outskirts of my city, yes. In fact, there’s quite a lot. Arable farms -those that grow only crops, vegetables and some fruits, as well as cattle farms – farms that rear cows, sheep and pigs for food. You pass by the farms if you’re driving out of the city on the highway, or on the train.
