　　题目大意为：一些人认为在现代社会我们更加依赖彼此，而另一些人则认为人们变得更加独立。

　　It is generally the case that human beings are closely dependent on each other in modern society, while others believe our independence has increased to a large extent. In my view, people have grown to be more self-reliant and freer from dependency on others.

　　People who argue that we are more interdependent advocate that individuals nowadays live in an interconnected environment. Dependence on and cooperation with each other enhanced our ability to survive under harsh environmental circumstances. For example, no worker in a corporation is conversant in any field, so they would accomplish tasks by collaborating with others. In addition, some families lead such hectic lives that they work full-time under huge pressure. Surveys reveal that more and more youngsters are seen working in other cities for a better quality of life. They increasingly rely on parents for childcare and distribute household chores to housekeepers.

　　However, the view that people have become more self-reliant stems from modern convenience. Individuals tend to live a largely insular lifestyle since modern tools offer innovative solutions to most issues. They can perform multiple tasks by sitting in one place without counting on the assistance of anyone. For example, the World Wide Web enables them to search for information on their own instead of consulting experts; the GPS allows them to travel around the world without asking for directions. As a result, those who take advantage of modern technologies can theoretically become more independent.

　　In conclusion, although people are dependent in specific ways since their lives are intertwined with others, they lead more independent lives physically and emotionally on the whole. This trend is expected to continue as new machines and technologies develop.
