Last summer holiday, my family and I went on vacation to Italy and visited many of the ancient sites there. One of the places we visited which impressed me the most was the leaning tower of Pisa. While I travelled there, I not only knew a lot of history of the tower of Pisa but also learned more about the Italian art.

The Tower of Pisa was originally the freestanding bell tower of Pisa Cathedral. However, the building came to international fame after the foundations it was built upon degraded and the tower began to lean to one side. Therefore, nowadays it is primarily a tourist attraction that people from all over the world come to visit. One can also climb the tower and see the beautiful view of the surrounding areas. However, the tower still retains its original function as the bell tower for the local Cathedral.

I think the Leaning Tower of Pisa is historic because it was the place where Galileo did his famous free fall experiment. This experiment greatly improved developments in physics area, so it became one of the most famous buildings in the world. Furthermore, the tower also brings joy to a lot of people. When people visit the tower, they like to take photos where they pretend they are holding the tower up. I think this is very funny and everyone was laughing a lot when they were taking the photos. So, I think the leaning tower of Pisa is a very special place.
