The question of what curriculum is most suitable for students has always been a concern of schools in pursue of high-quality education. Some people argue that paintings and drawing are of equal significance as other subjects which should be an indispensable course in high school. Personally, I am in favor of this view.The first reason why art of painting should be a compulsory part of high school curriculum lies in its recreational value.  This is what makes painting and drawing a welcomed extra-curricular activity that many students have interest in. By appreciating art works of painting or participating in the process of drawing, students can obtain aesthetic enjoyment as well as get entertained and relaxed. Consequently, their pressure from study would be largely relieved, which will also contribute to the enhancement of learning efficiency.Another significant reason is that art is indispensable for young students to achieve well-rounded development. To achieve the fundamental aim of  education, schools should not only offer academic knowledge but also cultivate students to be versatile with their own speciality. Equipping students with specific talent can improve their self-confidence and help them to lead a life with positive attitudes. However, it has to be admitted that painting as a compulsory course may also have some negative effects. Obviously, students’ academic performance might be adversely affected since this course would take up certain time that could have been used in studying. After all, the basic duty of students is to learn knowledge and their academic record is the prerequisite of enrollment to university. To conclude, despite the unfavorable influence art of painting might exert on students' study, I still hold the opinion that it should be included in high schools’ curriculum mainly because of its entertainment value as well as the objective of school education.
