The Adventure Of The Zoo

Our family trips to the zoo has always been something that I looked forward to. When I was young, our family always had so much fun going to the zoo!

We would buy a family membership and then make sure to visit the zoo several times throughout the year. We lived in Tennessee and would go to the Memphis Zoo. What a fun zoo!

There was always so much to see and do. What we normally would do was pick a certain part of the zoo and have fun enjoying those zoo animals. That way we never felt rushed thinking that we had to see the whole zoo and then be disappointed that we couldn't.

We normally did not pick which part of the zoo we were going to see until we got there. If, when we got there, we heard the Gorillas hooting, well, that is where we went. When the Lion was roaring well guess where we were headed?

I think the best thing about these trips to the zoo was we never felt hurried or rushed. We had our family membership and knew that there was always another day.

Make It A Learning Experience

A great way to get the most out of your trip to the zoo is to ask questions. The zoo keepers know a lot about the animals.

The Keepers love to talk about their furry (and sometimes not furry) friends.

The keepers have been working with these animals for a long time and know what the animals do and don’t like. What their favorite treat is. Do the animals like hot weather or cold? There is so much you can learn about the animals at the zoo.

The best time to learn about the animals is to be there at feeding time! I remember watching the keepers feeding the polar bears at the Memphis Zoo.

The keeper was standing outside of the pen where we were and was throwing big balls of hamburger. The bears were catching it in their mouth and swallowing them whole! That was amazing I never dreamed polar bears ate so much!

Another way to save money on your day out is to pack a picnic lunch. Picnics are so much fun. Pack your Kids' favorite treats. Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches or salami sandwiches are a lot cheaper than stopping by a fast food place on the way home.

Also, even if you do not plan on eating at the zoo I strongly recommend bringing your own water. Bottles of water at attractions like Zoos and Amusement parks can be expensive.

Water or Gatorade is so important on days like this. Make sure the kids stay hydrated. It is so easy to not realize that you are getting too much sun. You don't want a sick child just because the water was expensive. Bring sunscreen, hats and plenty of nice cool water.
