The oldest person I know is Zhang, our next door neighbour. She thinks she is 98, but she isn’t sure. Zhang does all the things she’s always done. She wakes up very early in the morning. When my family wakes up around 6:30, she is already awake. If it is a nice day, she takes a little chair and sits outside, beside her front door, and drinks her morning tea. Everybody in the neighbourhood knows her and says hello. She’s almost like a minor celebrity!At around 9:00, she walks to her grandson’s shop. He has a *all vegetable shop. She works for a few hours every day. Her mind is still very sharp. Her grandson has a calculator and a cash register, but she prefers to add the prices in her head and she never makes a mistake. Then she walks home and likes to watch TV in the evening.
When I was younger, I used to visit her often. After school, I would sometimes go to her house and she would give me little treats, like mooncakes. She knows they are my favourite. Now that I’m at university, I have less time to visit, but I try to visit her once every week or two.
