Describe a friend of your family you remember from your childhood.
Mr. Zhang was quite an old friend of my family. Once served in the air force as a copilot of my father, he used to hang out with my family quite often. But as far as I remember, all that changed during the ten-year dark period of the Cultural Revolution, when Mr. Zhang was falsely accused and consequently discharged without honor from the air force. After much affliction, Zhang’s wife couldn’t take it anymore and killed herself, and since then he became stranger and stranger, not willing to talk to anyone until he finally died in loneliness. It’s quite a sad story and I remember it very well because I feel there is a strong need for the society to care for those who have been through those difficult years and hence traumatized, especially someone like Mr. Zhang.

Well, I can hardly remember any family friend in my childho oreign expert in my father’s factory. My father was his interpreter, so they got acquainted very quickly. I remember I called him George. George was a very interesting person, and he would suddenly appear in my od, save Mr. McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin was from America and he worked as a f home as if from nowhere to ask my father to help him with this or that. Every time he showed up, he would give me some little presents. Oh, I loved him. But it’s not long before he finished his work here in China and went back to the States. Well, I don’t know whether I would see him ever again.
