英语中动词短语的基本构成是:一个动词和一个介词共同构成一个词组。这个词组通常既有按字面上理解的用法,也有习语的用法。例如: Put the cat out 就是字面用法(=把它放在房屋外);而 Put the fire out 则是一个习语用法(=使熄灭)。在英语,尤其是英语口语中, 短语动词比普通的动词用得更普遍 。例如,当某人敲门时,我们更倾向于说Come in!,而不说Enter!我们倾向说Put out the fire/Put the fire out,而不说Extinguish the fire。掌握一些常用的动词短语,并对其加以熟练应用,将使我们的口语表达更为地道。现对“剑桥”系列听力材料中出现的动词词组进行讲解如下:
