Information given in the bar chart is about comparisons in the amounts of different materials used to prosuce 1000 polystyrene cups and 1000 paper cups.

As illustrated in the data, the greatest amount of material in manufacturing 1000 polystyrene cups is steam, weighing 130 kg in total. Next come other chemicals totaling at 13 kg, which is added by 8-kg petroleum, 6-kilowatt electricity and 0.6-cubic-metre water.

Compared with polystyrene cups, paper cups seem rather energy-consuming. Put in detail, the consumption of wood, which is absent in polystyrene cups, is the largest and reaches 220 kg. Paper cups consume approximately ten times water and electricity as much as do polystyrene cups. The former also relies on more petroleum, more than doubling the latter. However, paper cups do not depend upon that great amounts of steam and other chemicals, which weigh 8 kg and 0.56kg respectively, with the latter being the least among the 6 elements given in the bar.

Overall, it is evident to say that steam is to polystyrene cups what wood to paper cups, and that the production of polystyrene cups is more environmentally-friendly as they cost less energy and do not require any wood resources.
