Some people spend more time reading books, while others prefer to watch TV. The former group are more likely to develop creative imagination and have a much better grasp of language skills.
Do you agree or disagree?

Personally, I disagree with the speaker since the comparison mentioned above cannot be fully achieved. Simply, reading books and watching television represent two unique forms of information source.

Whether or not the former is far superior to the latter cannot be determined by themselves but by what learning style the learners are. As is commonly accepted, the significance of learning styles is many-sided and all around beneficial. That is, regardless of age range, according to learner’s learning style, effective methods can be introduced to enhance the learning experience. Then, it is evidentially clear that reading books is more appropriate for those characterized by strong memory while watching television is more suitable for spatial as well as musical learners who are either pathologically skillful in visualization or can be easily turned on especially when set to a tune.

Reading books, as a traditional way to access to knowledge, has been applied for centuries. For those preferable to linguistic learning style, it could be the most effective way to learn language properties, to facilitate the development of language acquisition, such as to distinguish descriptive and argumentative languages. More importantly, certain books, particularly novels both fictions and non-fictions, describe a multi-layer world for the readers as the one in Vingt mille lieues sous les mers, known as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea . Watching television, on the other side, presents a vivid as well as colorful boundless universe for who are instinctively sensitive to colors and pictures. For instance, it would be more approachable for most people to watch the film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea to explore the unknown, to astonish the amazing creatures and to marvel the imagination of the author.

In conclusion, it is assertive and parochial to claim reading books is better than watching television in terms of developing personal imagination and language acquisition.
