Topic 43 想见的外国名人

1. How can people become famous?
Well, it’s different for every person. But I believe famous people are usually hard-working and talented in some way382. If you want to be a celebrity, you have to have a big dream and work hard for it. But luck is also involved. If you happen to know the right people383, you can become famous pretty quickly.

2. Why can some celebrities stay famous for a long time while some cannot?
I think it’s based on the work they put in384. For example, some singers stop being famous because they can’t write any other good songs. But others work hard constantly385 produce new, well-made music. The same goes for386 actors. The more movies they star in387, the more likely they are to stay famous. If you want to be a celebrity, you have to keep working.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of becoming a celebrity?
One advantage is that you usually earn a lot of money. You can buy yourself whatever you want. You can also go to cool events and parties with other celebrities. But being famous means you have no privacy. People don’t usually give celebrities a lot of personal space388 when they see them in person389.

4. How famous people influence teenagers?
I think that teenagers can be easily influenced. So they’ll basically do whatever their idols do. Famous people can influence teenagers through what they wear and what values they hold390. For example, a lot of Chinese celebrities post about charities391. That’s influenced tons of teenagers to donate to and care about charities392. But this can go wrong really quickly. If a teenager admires a celebrity that’s often violent, they might have the same bad behaviours.

5. What influences can famous people have on society?
Famous people can influence society through the values they hold. If a celebrity really cares about the environment, they can get their fans to donate to environmental charities. That has a better effect on the environment. Plus, famous people can also influence the economy. A lot of celebrities have merchandise based on their movies or songs393. This creates jobs for factory workers and improves the economy.
