Some people think visual images (like photographs and videos) can tell information more accurately in a news story, while others think they cannot represent the full story. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

It is not a rare case that an enormous number of visual images, such as photographs and videos, are presented in news stories. While some argue that visual imagery can convey information in a more accurate way, I entertain the view that it fail to depict the whole story.

It is justifiable for journali* nowadays, especially when online platforms are becoming the mainstream source, to show most reliance on visual images, as they can deliver information more vividly. Compared with test-based news, which can only stimulate readers’ creativity to internally visualise specific events and thus may be misleading, photos and videos can provide clearer pictorial information and instantly leave a deep impression directly on viewers. For instance, a short video of tsunami can better describe how catastrophic natural disasters are than thousands of words do. In this sense, viewers can better understand through extra sensory information like sounds and visuals. However, this is only an incomplete part of the whole picture. More accurately, even visual images can be misleading.
