题目大意：很多城市的规划者将城市分为不同的区域。这一个现象优点是否大于缺点。

这是一个“优劣势”题型中outweigh的题目，故考生需要明确表达“优大于劣”或“劣大于优”的观点，同时使用2:1的方式进行写作。

笔者认为“优大于劣”，故主体段3段——写两个优点和一个缺点。

考生需要注意的是，在让步段中不能写“反驳”，因为一个段落有且只有一个中心。

Nowadays, planners of a great number of metropolises have designed particular areas to separate shopping malls, educational institutions, office buildings and residential blocks from one another. Personally, I am inclined to the view that the merits of this strategy prevail over the drawbacks.

The major benefit is that functional zoning makes the city layout easier to understand, especially for visitors. Before approaching and travelling around a certain city, visitors normally make an itinerary and strategy. If a clear city map can be referred to, they will get familiar with their destinations easily, thereby having an enjoyable experience and enjoying different facets of the place.

Another advantage is that the use of the infrastructure in an area can be optimised. For example, if housing regions are not scattered in different places within a city, the varied sports facilities constructed in a residential district can serve all people in the neighbourhood who want to participate in exercise at one time. When it comes to maintaining time, related costs can be reduced.

However, the disadvantages of this trend cannot be ignored, one of which is that the clustering of many buildings of the same function in certain areas is likely to generate high volumes of traffic, which leads to frequent traffic congestion in those areas. There are many vehicles gathering in front of a school gate in the early morning and late afternoon when parents drop off and pick up their children to and from classes; thus, heavy traffic jams may be caused.

In conclusion, I would like to iterate that there are more positive outcomes than the negative ones if a city is divided into areas with different functions. After all, people can find it easy to understand a city, and moreover, make the most of infrastructure.
