雅思口语Part2话题: a cafe

雅思口语里经典的cafe还记得不，最近又是各种出现。现在的咖啡店除了要有情调，更是得有特色，没有主题都不好意思开门。什么zoo coffee啊，有猫在的咖啡店啊，各种回忆童年主题的啊，总之没有个什么selling point，就不要说自己是café啦。雅思考官之所以出了道描写咖啡厅的题目，估计就是想了解一下各地的特色店铺吧……

I’d like to talk about a café called Mr. Wang, which is located near my school, actually it’s only within walking distance of my school gate.

There are so many things to say about this café.

First of all, the biggest feature of this café is that the owner keeps two adorable cats that are not afraid of people at all. So this place has become a magnet for cats lovers, like me. After school, I just love to hang out in this café, having a cup of milk and petting those two cats.

The owner is extremely hospitable, he’s on a first-name basis with every regular, and we always get some *all gifts and free stuff from him on our birthday.

The environment and decoration of the café is unique, it’s like it’s specially designed for young people. I mean, the owner prepared board games and video games for the guests, so during weekend, there are always a bunch of students gathering here. And it also has a projector and a huge screen, the owner would play a movie on a regular basis, usually on Saturday night.

Oh, and anime buffs would love this place, ‘cause there are action figures everywhere in this café, including famous characters from American and Japanese animations.

Besides those two cats, what I love about this place is that the owner bought magazines and books for his guests. So for me, it’s a perfect place to kill time. The owner has got great taste, I mean, the background music he plays is always soothing and relaxing, so I always have a good time there.

如果考官此时还没有叫停，那么就说说店里的集体活动啥的：

This place is our favorite hangout ‘cause the owner always throws parties during public holidays.

然后就开始描写你最擅长的聚会吧!

语言点解析：

1. within walking distance of就是步行即可到达，例如：

The beach is within walking distance of my house (= you can walk there easily).

2. to be on a first-name basis with somebody就表示很熟，可以直呼姓名的那种(to call them by their first name as a sign of a friendly informal relationship)，英式说法是o be on first-name terms with somebody.

3. on a regular basis, 我们还会看到类似的表达，例如on a daily/ day-to-day/ weekly basis

4. anime buff

anime就是Japanese film/ movie and television animation, 日本动漫 buff就是对某个东西季度热爱的人，例如movie buffs.

5. action figures就是我们常说的“手办”(a doll representing a soldier or a character from a film/ movie, TV show, etc.)

6. hangout合在一起写是名词哦，表示a place where somebody lives or likes to go often，例如：

This cafe is a popular hang-out for tourists.

7. throw parties 跟party搭配的很口语化的动词是throw。

雅思口语描述人物话题需要注意两点

　　雅思口语考试的第二部分中，考生被主要考察的是对于具体的事物、人物、事件等的具体描述能力。第二部分历时3~4分钟，其中包括考生开始描述前，可以有1分钟的时间来准备有关的描述内容，并使用考场提供的纸和笔，准备相关的笔记内容。一般情况下，考生需要就考官所提供的卡片上的问题进行2~3分钟的描述。卡片举例如下：

　　Describe a Family Member

　　Describe a family member that you are very close to.

　　Your should say:

　　Who this person is.

　　What this person is like.

　　How you are like and unlike this person.

　　And explain why you are close to this person.

　　在第二部分的描述中，对人物的描述是考试的主流话题之一。人物描述出现的概率相当高，几乎在每个月的考试里面都能遇到。一般来讲，人物描述的体现方式有以下几种：

　　a famous person/a child/an old person/a favorite teacher/a close family member/a close friend

　　在今年的雅思口语考试中，又出现了一些新的表现方式，如：an interesting person/a happiest person 等。不论怎么样的表现形式，对于考生来说，只要掌握方法，都能逐一破解。有的考生可能会提出疑问，如果只是回答卡片上的几个问题，似乎很难达到2分钟的时间长度。那么，卡片上没有没到的方面，我可以进行描述吗?回答是肯定的。但是前提是，这些虽然不是卡片问题的内容，但也必须是和该卡片主体息息相关的信息。

　　对于该人物的描述，考生需要注意以下几个方面：

　　1、对卡片上的问题进行回答。

　　以上卡片包含着4个问题，在笔记过程中应当以词语为基础来进行分解：

　　Who this person is. (人物，e.g. my mother)

　　What this person is like. (描述性词语，e.g. looks, personality, hobbies)

　　How you are like and unlike this person. (比较和对比，similarities – looks & hobbies; differences -- personality)

　　Why you are close to this person. (该家庭成员对自己的影响.)

2、对卡片上没有提到信息进行描述。

　　在准备的1分钟里面，考生可以将一些问题的答案关键词的形式纪录在纸张上，即以上括号里面的一些内容，以起到提醒的作用。然后结合自己的情况进行相关的描述。

　　Sample Answer (with key words underlined):

　　The person I am very close to in my family is my mother. My mother is medium height who always wears a friendly *ile on her face. Blue is her favorite color as she thinks it symbols peace and emotion. I think is has a lot to do with her personality. As a music teacher, she is always very patient and kind to her students. There are quite a few similarities between us. People all say that I look like my mother more than my father. We both like listening to the music and watching movies. On weekends, we often go shopping in the supermarkets or department stores. But we are also different in many ways. My mother is a good gardener. Our veranda is lined with all her gardening masterpieces, such as chrysanthemum and Chinese roses. I am not so patient in taking care of the plants. Besides, my mother can cook many delicious dishes, while I can’t at all. I have learned how to treat people and how to deal with problems on my own from her. She is the one I am close to as she really influences me a lot.

　　有的考生在未结束描述前，可能被考官打断(Sorry. I am gonna stop you there.)如果遇到这样的情况，是因为考官需要掌握和掌控考试的节奏和时间，打断并非是由于认为考生讲得不好，所以考生不必紧张，只需要根据考官的指令继续考试即可。

　　鉴于雅思口语考试的特殊性，很多考试的卡片问题是一般的考生在日常生活中很少接触到的方面。所以对于备考雅思的考生，建议一定要在考前有针对性的进行充分准备，并适当联系笔记的技巧，加之有规律的练习，才能在第二部分中有比较满意的表现。
