In present-day society, plastic containers and utensils are extensively used in big cities and the countryside alike. They are so common-place and I would hazard the guess that each one of us has seen, at one time or another, the unsightly scene of plastic bags swirling in the wind. These plastic shopping bags, chopsticks, to-go boxes and mineral-water bottles, to name but a few, when not properly disposed of, create a colossal amount of non-biodegradable refuse. Therefore, some people argue that we have embarked upon a “兄谨throw-away” era when plastic rubbish is largely dumped indiscriminately and irresponsibly (this act is often labeled “white pollution” on account of the color of plastic wastes). Personally, I wholeheartedly support their view.
There are numerous reasons for this worrisome phenomenon coming into being. To begin with, at present the bulk of people who shop and/or eat out regularly are still poorly-informed, uninformed or misinformed about the pernicious influence that non-biodegradable pollutants exert on the ecosystem, which is the main culprit in the global-scale mishandling of the plastic wastes. The chief component of such trash is polythene, which cannot decompose on landfill sites over the process of the next hundreds of years if no major scientific breakthrough comes along in polythene treatment. Thus, such trash must be dealt with collectively rather than be scattered like tumbleweeds. Secondly, the proliferation of plastic shopping bags and eating ware is largely fuelled by the surging, headlong consumeri*. Plastic containers and utensils are lighter in weight, cheaper (often free of charge) in price and water-proof in performance. These superior properties make them preferable to their paper and cloth counterparts in customers’ eyes; and as consumer satisfaction reigns supreme in contemporary society, compared with superb portability, affordability and utility, how to dispose of them is the last thing the customers are concerned about. Additionally, plastic bags, wrap and containers are also commercially feasible since they are cheaper to manufacture, ship and store. These mercenary considerations also have prompted the good old cloth or paper bags to be supplanted by plastic bags but over the phasing-out process, few stores and restaurants advocate or encourage the use of environmentally-benign disposal of plastic trash, hence the whole slew of non-biodegradable garbage and environmental hazards ensue.
Given the scale and severity of “white pollution”, we must take immediate steps to address this scourge. In the first place, we must do our utmost to enhance people’s awareness of how persistent and devastating non-biodegradable trash can be to our environment and our posterity’s. Secondly, retail stores and dining establishments should spare no effort in encouraging their customers to reuse plastic packing items. Furthermore, indiscriminate and irresponsible dumping of household garbage or personal junk should be outlawed by the legislature and heavy fines or even jail terms must be imposed on those compulsive litterbugs who fail to get their act together. Then, on the part of the biochemical researchers and technologists, scientific research must be launched here and now in pursuit of effectual ways to convert non-biodegradable refuse to biodegradable refuse. Last but not least, the government must not shirk its obligations in mobilizing scientific resources and rallying popular support in the crusade against “white pollution”. Neither should pay just lip service to relevant research and campaigns if no enough funding can be obtained otherwise. Additionally, I am convinced a customer tax levied by the government on the use of plastic bags will also help to curb this massive “white pollution”.
The havoc non-biodegradable refuse can wreak on the ecosystem is beyond our imagination. It can eventually devastate soil, water and the aquatic and terrestrial biota. We must start combating this environmental catastrophe before the ecosystem irretrievably breaks down under the reign of the minute plastic debris.

Describe your ...

I am a college student now and the ideal job for me is a teacher.
For starters (pat推荐的饥猜开篇小词) ,I was told that being a teacher is one of the most worthy thing a person can be(teenage drama queen 里面的台词).Teachers fill young minds with knowledge, but more importantly, give those minds a compass so that knowledge doesn’t go to waste(也是一个电影里面的台词,忘了电影名了,能搜到).
Also, I’m crazy about kids. I’m pretty sure I will enjoy the time being with adorable children. I’ve pictured that moment in my dream many times.

As for the place I can be a teacher, I think schools would probably be the best. You know, most children study at schools. I will meet all kinds of lovely children there and it must be nice.(微笑一下,表情作戚前高兴状)

I don’t care how many hours I will be working every day. Being a teacher would give me a better appreciation of life. You know, life is not always about how much you can get or how much you have spent, the true genius of life is about pursuing what you like. In contrast, I don’t think I would be delighted when I’m not what I wanna be, I don’t wanna be a busines*an or a lawyer or something, even if I could be well-paid.

Anyway, it’s no exaggeration to say that teaching is the ideal job that I want to do later in my life.

Describe a positive change that you made to your life.

You should say:

when it happened

where it happened

what the change was

and explain how you have benefited from this change

( or, explain how you feel about this change)

The positive change that I would like to talk about is ‘I started playing outdoor games instead ofplaying computer games’. After I got my first personal computer when I was only 9 years old orso, I started learning many things. Besides that I started playing the computer games. Ascomputer games are addictive I found that I was playing the games whenever I had spare times. This addiction barred me from playing outdoor games like cricket, football etc.

I found myself very much attracted to the computer games and I preferred to play the games athome instead of going to open spaces or fields to participate in outdoor games that involvephysical exercises. Not that computer games are all so bad, but playing them all the timesomeone has got is not a good thing especially for kids. I found that I was spending more timesat home than being outside. After my parents noticed that, they discussed with me about thatand explained me the importance of outdoor activities. They gave me strict restriction that Iwould only be able to play computer games for an hour daily and in the evening I’d have to gooutside to play with my friends.

This was obviously a very positive change for me. I’m not against computer games but I feel thatif there are more important things to do, then we should not spend time on computer games only. This change affected me very positively. I became a good cricket player later on, I startedmaintaining my times more prudently and I am sure this change has affected me positively interms of physical and mental health.

Describe a positive change that you have made to your life.

You should say:

what the change was

when it happened

where it happened

and explain how you have benefited from this change

Ok, well the positive change which I would like to tell you about was actually a pretty simple one, but it's improved my life a great deal, and basically all it was, was getting up an hour earlier every day.

The reason I started doing it was because it got to the point where my whole day was taken up with various stuff, like classes and homework, and I found that I hardly had any free time left. So I kind of realized that the only way to make more time for myself was to get up earlier, and so that's what I decided to do. It wasn't easy at first, especially when it was cold, but thankfully it got a lot easier, and now I find it no effort at all getting out of bed at five in the morning,

Anyway, as for when I first started doing this, well, I guess it must have probably been about two or three years ago, round about the time I was busy preparing for my university entrance exams, and I was getting up at something like five or six every morning to revise. And after my exams finished, I remember thinking to myself, wouldn't it be good to continue getting up early and have all this extra time to do things at the beginning of the day.

So that's pretty much how it all started, and finally, with regard to how I've benefited from this change, well to put it simply, I'd say I've benefited immensely, in more ways than one. For example, it's given me time to do a bit of exercise every day, which I didn't use to have time for. So now I've become a lot fitter. And as well as this, I also now have the time to eat a proper breakfast every day, instead of skipping it, like I used to do, so I've basically become much healthier as a result.

That's more or less everything, I guess, so thanks very much for listening.

Notes:

it got to the point where... 的地步

taken up - 被占据

I find it no effort at all - 我现在觉得一点都不费劲

如果被问到an occasion when you changed your plan,怎么回答呢?

This topic reminds me of the time I changed my mind about what I want to do in the future. Here’s what happened.

I’d always wanted to be a teacher when I was little, ‘cause I used to think teachers know everything and it’s the coolest job in the whole wide world. And teachers are highly respected by others.

However, I had a change of mind when I was in high school. At that time, my grandpa was diagnosed with terminal cancer. And he went to all of the hospitals in my hometown, but things didn’t get any better. We were told that there was only 3 months left for him. So in the end, we went to Beijing, and made an appointment with a famed doctor. He treated my grandpa with the most advanced medical technique and drugs that just came on the market. And miraculously, my grandpa lived 5 more years because of this doctor and his excellent team. I am so grateful to the doctor for everything he did for my family.

So from that moment on, I decided that I would be a doctor in the future. It’s a rewarding and fulfilling job. Doctors give people hope, and they comfort patients and their family when they are so desperate.

Ok, the product that I’d like to mention is a Digital Single-lens Reflex Camera that my dad bought to me as a graduation gift. It’s a Canon EOS 70D. Honestly, I barely know anything about photography, and it’s never one of my hobbies. But since I’ve got his DSLR, I think I have to use it. Then I know that it has quite a good performance and specification, like a vari-angle LCD Monitor which is definitely able to shoot stills or movies from unique or awkward angles, and of course, fast continuous shooting that allows me to capture the briefest moments. This indeed encouraged me to use it as much as possible. So I take it with me whenever there’s chance to take pictures. Namely, I take it when I hang out with friends, I take it to my trips at weekends, and of course I also take it to the wedding ceremony of my cousin. And on that occasion I got to know a girl majoring in photography, loving photography and wishing to have photography as her permanent career. We had a happy and interesting talk and I was totally shocked by her passion and complete devotion to photography. I didn't quite understand her at that time though she showed me many gorgeous and magical photos she took which are just like those can be found on the internet. Hearing what I think she invited me to go on a photography trip with her on a Saturday. We actually climbed a local mountain where I used to work out when I’m free. I can’t help doubting because I can’t know this mountain more. As far as I know, there’s nothing special that worth being taken. She didn't talk much, just kept taking pictures all the way to the top. When I couldn’t stand that situation any longer she showed her photos to me. And I was amazed. When I saw the flowers, they weren’t the flowers I thought they should be. When I saw the pine trees, they were just a lot more adorable than what I know. When I saw the sky, I finally noticed how many diverse shapes the clouds can change to. Then I realised how little I knew about the world, the environment we live. And they are just worth being noticed more and praised more than we used to. Finally, I got to know the real fun and value of photography. Probably it’s not the truth of photography to all photographers, but I believe to see, to care and to love the world indeed adds the value of photography. Therefore, ever since from that day, I care more, love to see more, and I’m passion about finding out the beauty around us.
