《剑桥雅思4》p45, 11题 ： A large number of native speake

如果从细节上看，fail to do something和fail doing something的区别在你意识里并没有区别开。也就是说本来是表示两个意思的短语，被你混在一起了。fail to do表示没有能够做得到某事，说明还没做那件事，那件事是你无法保证去实施的；而fail doing则表示你已经做某件事上失败了，是已经做过那件事了。

句子中，fail to guarantee所处的语境是一个作者的推断语境，语境是说大量的使用者也未必能够保证语言的存活。它这个推断是从原文当中来的。肯定会有相反的例子说大量的说话者也能够让语言很好的存在。你抓到了一个片段的证据，就来判断了。不要这样做，以后要通读（浏览抓首末句）全文，然后在这个判断前后一些的地方找相关信息。不要跳跃，不要武断。

主要就是以上问题：一个是短语理解上不扎实；一个是做阅读题做法的章法上的问题。

According to the line chart, both UK tourists abroad and overseas travelers to the UK went up from 1979 to 1999 and the former climbed more markedly than the latter. In 1979, UK visitors were only around 2 million more than their overseas counterparts, being roughly 12 and 10 million respectively. However, two decades later, they almost doubled the foreign visitors to Britain (approximately 53 and 27 million separately).

The bar graph demonstrates that France and Spain were the favorite countries for UK travelers in 1999, which attracted around 11.0 and 9.5 million UK visitors respectively. Remotely following were the USA, Greece and Turkey with 4.0, 2.5 and 2.0 million visitors separately.

What is also worth mentioning is that France and Spain alone accounted for almost 40 percent of UK visitors abroad in 1999, if the two diagrams are considered as a whole.

实际做题：
1）首先出现了library这个定位词，那么经历主要集中在C，G上。
原文：How to use the library’s resources. That includes everything， not just the print and the technical resources.
解题：通过同义转换可以得到答案C，或者G 选项所包含的technical resources被否定了，排除后也可以选择正确选项为C。
2）紧接着出现Internet这个定位词，马上把注意力转移到A，F上。
原文：The one on the Internet for beginners was last term. This term it’s finding research materials online.
解题：beginner 与 introduction 形成同义转换，但是时间点为上学期，作为干扰项排除后正确答案为F。
3）最后出现了dissertation这个定位词，那么B，D，E三选一就开始了。
原文：It’s a workshop on dissertation. What do you mean？ How to write one？ Er， no， it’s to do with academic writing conventions.
解题：文中问到，是怎么写一篇论文吗？回答不是的。故可以排除B，D，因为这两个选项是属于怎样写论文的，这样就可以得到正确答案E. 或者把writing conventions 与 standard requirements 做同义转换也可。
看过多选题后，我们再来看一个单选题的例子：

A made monosodium glutamate
B began using kombu
C identified glutamate
思路透析：
典型的雅思3选1单选题。经过审题后发现，A，C选项都为动词加名词的结构，而且名词都是glutamate，故这两个选项里出正确答案的几率很高。
实际做题：
首先出现了kombu这个定位词，但是并没有与1908这样一个时间形成匹配，故先排除B。
原文：...was actually discovered to be glutamate by scientists working there
解题：discover 与 identify 形成同义转换，答案为C
