故事简介：去年,我在美国数学建模竞赛中获得了优异奖。这是一个由大学生组成的团队使用数学模型对现实世界 问题提出解决方案的竞赛。

Last year; I got a prize of “Meritorious Winner” (/,meri’t:):ri9s/优异奖 )from the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (美国数学建模竞赛).It is a contest where teams of undergraduates use mathematical modeling to present their solutions to real-world problems.

To win this, I built a team with a group of close clas*ates, and we spent 6 months learning mathematical models in two ways, including reading books and using modeling software. Firstly; we read a series of books, such as ^z An Introduction to Mathematical Modeling’ written by Edwards. Those books are very useful as they introduce various mathematical methods and model application in business, science, and engineering. Besides, we also used computer software such as Matlab to simulate some business problems with models. We made assumptions, chose mathematical approaches, and assessed the solution for usefulness and accuracy to solve modeling problems. Then we reworked and adjusted the model until it provided an accurate and predictive result of the situation.

I felt very excited and happy when receiving this prize. Firstly, we reaped （/ri:p/4攵获）a great return from our hard work. Besides, with this contest’s preparation, I had a deeper understanding of many mathematical concepts, such as statistics and equations. I was proud of this achievement..
