Butterfly Lovers is based on the legendary Chinese love story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. The roles are played by Wu Chun and Charlene Choi (A Sa) respectively .

Adding a twist to the movie, the story unfolds( 这个词用得太地道了！一般我们都会说the story begins......吧？) with them finding each other in a world of martial arts. Liang is ordered by his master to take care of Zhu, a girl from a wealthy family who disguises herself as a man to escape from danger.

They fall in love but Zhu's parents force her to marry another rich man. At the end Yingtai and Shanbo die and their spirits turn into a pair of beautiful butterflies, flying together among the flowers forever, never to be apart again.
