Describe a traffic law/rule

Describe a traffic law/rule.

You should say:

what the law is

how you first learned about this law

who benefits from this law (or, who is affected by this law)

I want to describe a law that was amended in 2021 and came into effect immediately. It said drunk driving is a criminal behavior, if people were found driving after drink; they would get a serious penalty which included several months detention , revoking of their driving licenses and fine for thousands RMB.

The law is much harsher compared with the previous law on drink driving. A recent government report said over 3 thousand people were killed and 9 thousand were injured during the last 5 years. Drink driving is not only harmful to yourself, it also puts others in danger.

After the law came into effect, the number of drunk driving cases fall dramatically. China's roads are getting busier. The new drunk driving law is designed to make them a little less dangerous.

Ok right then , well after a bit of thought, the law that I would like to talk to you about is the drink-driving law, which I guess every country has to some degree, but here in China it’s very strict, in that you can’t drink any alcohol at all before you drive, you know, not even a drop. And it’s been extremely effective in deterring people from

drinking before they drive, because they know that if they get caught, they’ll get points deducted from their licence, they’ll get fined, and possibly also go to prison.

And uh, as for how I first learnt about this law, well I honestly can’t remember, but I suppose it must have been through either watching the news on TV or reading the paper, cos when the law was revised, it was pretty big news. You know, previously, I think the law was that you could have a certain amount to drink, like, one or two beers or something, but then the government decided to really crack down on it, and changed the law to no alcohol at all.

But anyway, going on to who benefits from this law, well um…… I think it’s fair to say that society as a whole benefits, um…cos I mean, we’re all better off without having drunk drivers on the road. You know, I don't think anyone would argue the fact that it makes for a much safer society. I don’t know the actual statistics or anything, but I’m sure the number of traffic accidents has decreased considerably since this law came into effect.

And that’s basically why I’d say it’s such a good law, you know, it prevents a lot of needless accidents. So yeah, I completely agree with it, and I think it’s essential that we continue to have it.

House and Apartment

  Home/House/Apartment
Do you currently live in a house or a flat/apartment?
I live in a flat not far from the town center.
I currently live in a 300-square-meter house in the southern suburb of the town.
  考生要理解flat/apartment与house概念上的差异。
  Can you describe your house/flat?
Sure. The flat has 6 rooms—one living room, one kitchen, one bathroom and three bedrooms for my parents, my brother and myself. The extra one is for the guest who would come to stay with us.
What main items of furniture or appliances do you have in each room?
There aren’t many things in my home. To begin with, there is pla*a TV with two surrounding speakers on each side in the living room. In front of it are a coffee table and a set of couches arranged in a half circle. There are also, of course, a few pieces of decorations in the corners and on the walls of the living room. In the bedrooms there is really nothing special, but only beds. However, in my parents’ room there is another TV and in mine, a desktop computer, because, you see, I have to work on my computer everyday.
Is it a typical house/flat in your city?
Yes, it is. You’ll find tons of flats/houses like this in my city.
Not really. I don’t think most people can afford a big house/flat like this one.
What kind of house or flat do you want to live in in the future?
Well, I would prefer a new flat in the town center. It doesn’t have to be very big, but definitely has to be nice and cozy.
I’d like to have a big house with a beautiful garden in front for myself. You see, I always wanted to live in a house, to enjoy the big space and privacy it provides. But, of course, I also have to think in terms of my affordability before I make my final decision.
Do you like the decoration in your home? Why or why not?
Are you kidding? From the wallpaper selection to paintings I drew by myself, from the flowers on the table to other decorations in the corner, I made all these all by myself. I love them.
No. I am not very satisfied with the decoration in my home, because I always feel there is something missing. Maybe I need something to put in the corners.
Will you move to another house or flat in the near future?
Yes, definitely. The one I’m currently living in is too old. The paint is peeling off; the wall is not soundproof enough; and worst of all, the sewage system in the building is just annoying—it always gets stuck, letting wastes drift everywhere in the corridor. Just imagine how terrible the scene looks. So I must move out of there as soon as I find a suitable one.
No. I’m comfortable with the house I’m living in now. It is big enough for my whole family and still close enough to the town center, making it all convenient for commutation to schools, offices and shops. So I’m not going to move.
What kind of house/flat are you going to move into?
Well, I would definitely like to move into a bigger flat, one that has a separate study room and a bigger living room for my new home theater system.
I am going to moving into a *all house. Though it is not my ideal house and has only 4 rooms, it is definitely cheaper than the flat I’m currently living in, because it is located in the community in the suburb. And it is safer.
What do you think of the area in which you live?
It is a great neighborhood with great environment and facilities. People are friendly; *all parks are everywhere; and there are also sports facilities free to use. I like the place where I live.
I am not very satisfied with the area in which I live. The major reason is it is too densely populated. There are not enough parking lots. It is always hard to get one. When it comes to the public facilities, you won’t have a chance to lay your hands on it, for they are always being used by others.
How long have you lived there?
I’ve lived there for 4 years. It’s been a great living experience: great neighborhood, great people, and great facilities.
I haven’t lived there for long. But I don’t really like the neighborhood, because people are too aloof. For a person like me who enjoys close friendship with neighbors, it is just nightmare.
  What are your neighbors like?
Since I live in a house in a less populated suburban area, there are only a few neighbors in the area where I live. But they are all great people, people who are always ready to help.
There are a lot of people living in my neighborhood. Some are really great people, while some others are just strange.
