Traveling abroad has become a new lifestyle nowadays. However, complaints about the potential negative effects of international travel have been sparked among the public in recent years. This essay will outline two main reasons for these complaints and provide certain measures to change the opinion.
First of all, it is a widespread phenomenon that foreign travelers might repel the local community because of their inappropriate languages and behavior in some resorts. Due to the cultural differences, visitors’ behavior may break traditional rules in travel destinations sometimes. For example, a visitor will annoy an Indian when he passes food by his left hand. For this reason, the local government can take actions to provide more specific travelling tips in popular scene spots for foreign travelers.
In addition, more and more transnational travels will cause damage to the unique nature of a culture. Foreign visitors will bring not only tangible matters like food and clothes but also something intangible, such as their festivals or customs. In other words, these visitors are assimilating their country’s culture while they are traveling abroad, which will be bound to cause antipathy in racist society. Germany is a case in point. For this reason, the government can encourage locals to hold a tolerant attitude toward foreign arrivals as they have no common knowledge of local conventions in most times. Traveling is for cultural communication instead of invasion.
In conclusion, breaking conventions and cultural uniqueness are the two main factors leading to the bias regarding international touri*. Both governments and individuals should make an effort to change this phenomenon.

3、Simile 明喻

It is a figure of speech which makes a comparison between two unlike elements having at least one quality or characteristic in common. To make the comparison, words like as, as...as, as if and like are used to transfer the quality we associate with one to the other。

You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.

Should famous people have more privacy? Does the media treat celebrities fairly? You should write at least 250 words. You should use your own ideas of knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evidence.

Being famous is not as easy as you think. Newspapers, television and the Internet can make you very well-known, but they can also take away your privacy. This essay will discuss whether celebrities are treated fairly by the media.

Famous people depend on the media. Without films, television, magazines, radio, and other media, there would be no money for actors or musicians, and politicians would not get elected. Without advertisements, Beckham would not get huge contracts. However, in return for publicity and even more fame and money, celebrities sell part of their personal and professional lives. Often, their friends and families suffer too.

The media, in turn, depends on celebrity. Sports heroes, super models, and politicians fill the pages of our papers and our television screens. But the relationship can easily go wrong. Too much attention from the media can drive some celebrities crazy. The families are affected, and relationships break down. Their work or social life suffers, leading to even more rumors and media stories. Like a pack of wild dogs, the press feeds on its victims and fights over the bones. Sometimes, the media has a duty to do. It must tell the public about some wrongdoing or some crooked business deal. But usually the main business of the media is to sell more magazines or advertisements, and when it has chewed up one victim, the pack will move on to the next.

In conclusion, there is a constant battle between media and celebrities, and often there are human victims. The next time you read about the latest footballer or singer, think about the human behind the story.

比方说很多同学张口就来 “as strong as an ox.” 但是在英语里面通常的同意表达是 “as strong as a horse.”

其实雅思口语和作文很相似,口语中对给出的话题一定要切入主题,不然就会被考官认为是跑题。但是前提条件是一定要把题目听明白了才行。对于跑题的概念我们来举出具体的例子说明;

问题:Do you like reading books? Yes, I do. I like reading books very much。

然后你就回答Yes, I do....。 可以用Of course, Definitely, Sure, 和Certainly来做个替换,然后把后面I like的宾语提前说出来,就变成了Reading books is one of my favourites in my free time. And it can enlarge my imagination and widen the scope of knowledge。

①(名词或代词) is the kind of (person/place/thing…) who (which/that) is…

将每次做完一篇文章后当时不懂的句子划出来,在结束做题后仔细分析句式结构;通过积累一段时间后基本上能够做到凌波微步,不用因为看不懂某一句话停下来回读了;

听力:

a.选择题,先掌握题干的动宾结构,随后去对比和比较各个选择支中相同和不同的成份,在听的过程中要注意把握说话者的观点;

1.推荐顾家北的《雅思写作思路剖析》,将写作思路看完后,在随后的每个专题动手写一篇,其余的看一看积累素材和结构;

The new era has witnessed the rise of …, there is no denying towards its significance of …, while it raises much concern as…. This essay aims to give an overview of the debatable issue by throwing light on both sides and offer some responsible solutions。

最大的教训是准备口语应该先准备回答问题的基本思路,而不是先准备回答问题的内容;例如:回答“How do you like transportations in your city?”,我们应该有逻辑结构的展开“To the best of my knowledge, the transportation is by no means….As can be mainly seen in the fact that…It also deserves mention that…”

1. Can capital punishment (death penalty) ever be justified?

Arguments against capital punishment

Capital punishment, which even though manages to bring the criminals to justice, could by no means compensate for physical, mental and psychological sufferings inflicted on victims, or in some extreme cases, bring back their lives.

It is entirely unjustified to deprive one of his/her rights to live regardless of how insanely severe and cruel the offenses he/she has committed are. (This subject matter has boiled to the controversial issue of human rights)

How the body of the deceased criminal is going to be disposed of (used for organ transplant, for instance) will be bound to raise grave both ethical and social implications.

Arguments for capital punishment

It would be only fair for the victims if the criminals are subject to the greatest fear of all- death.

If capital punishment is ever to be done away with, the potential wrong-doers wouldn’t be deterred from committing staggeringly serious offenses among which serial murder proves particularly appalling.

2. Should criminals be sent to prisons or placed on education and job retraining?

In stark contrast to placing criminals on educational courses or employment retraining, prisons appeared more effective in deterring potential, would-be wrongdoers from committing crimes, thus drastically decreasing the likelihood of rising crime rate.

Being locked up behind the bars is a punitive measure imposed on criminals who are highly unlikely to turn into a recidivist in consideration of their fear of setting foot into jails ever again.

Arguments for education and job retraining

“Captivity of negativity” is a terminology intended to describe the destructive, rather than constructive impact on criminals who are locked up in prison, surrounded by people who probably have committed even more serious charges. Education serves to correct any misconception or eliminate twisted thoughts they have by immersing them in a positive environment.

A significant proportion of criminals are sadly illiterate without adequate fundamental knowledge and survival skills and it wouldn’t be easy for them to find a decent job after being released from the jail. With convenient access to education and job retraining, they are able to survive by themselves, greatly reducing the chance of becoming a recidivist in times when they are financially challenged.

3. Should individual choices interfere with the society that is based on rules and laws

The conflict of public interest and personal interest accounts largely for the issue of the extent to which is the interference of personal choices justified with the society governed by rules and laws.

On the other hand, rules and laws should give in to personal choices in some special cases.

Task:Society is based on rules and laws. It could not function if individuals were free to do whatever they wanted. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, there is an assertion that the freedom of citizens should be limited; otherwise it might harm the social laws and justice system, thus making our society unstable. Personally, this view is psychologically right, while it overlooks the importance of fighting against the unfair laws freely.

Firstly, there is no doubt that obeying social rules and laws is the fundamental obligation for all individuals, for the reason that they serve as a key function of ensuring our society running on the right track. Obviously, these regulations define the borders between the right and the wrong, the social ethics and day-to-day conduct standards, all of which can instruct and regulate citizens to act and think in a lawful, polite and safe way. Otherwise, the ignorance of these regulations, or so-called “an absolute freedom”, will trap our society into chaos and even malfunction. For example, if the traffic laws were disrespected, it is expected that all streets and highways will be full of congestions and car crashes caused by wrongdoings in driving like blind over speed or overtaking. Similarly, if the criminal law were absent, then there will be no concern of punishments for committing crimes. Consequently, illegal activities including thefts, robberies, arson, rapes, vandali* and murders will be overwhelming, which will not only place the poverties and lives of the public in the danger, but also destroy today’s civilization in a long term.

However, there is always a justification that people should be allowed to freely question and topple those unfair laws that are the barriers of democracy development. In history, the typical example is the slavery law in America that defined African-Americans as second-class citizens and deprived their rights of public education, health care and vote. If this evil law were just followed, instead of being eradicated through the pursuit of human freedom, we now can predict clearly that current the community of America would be still full of inequity, discrimination, and massive social disorder caused by conflicts between the black and white.

All in all, I agree that it is very necessary to limit the freedom of the public by confining their behaviors in the bounds of social regulation and laws, which is the pre-condition of social democracy and stability. However, when it comes to unjust laws, the public should have the freedom to eliminate them.

Unlike in most other countries, police in the UK do not commonly carry guns. Some people think it leaves citizens unprotected. But others think it reduces the overall violence in our society. Discuss both sides of the view and give your opinion. (040320, 040619)

Sending criminals to prison is not the best method of dealing with them. Education and job training are better ways to help them. Do you agree or disagree? (050618, 080918)

In present-day society, plastic containers and utensils are extensively used in big cities and the countryside alike. They are so common-place and I would hazard the guess that each one of us has seen, at one time or another, the unsightly scene of plastic bags swirling in the wind. These plastic shopping bags, chopsticks, to-go boxes and mineral-water bottles, to name but a few, when not properly disposed of, create a colossal amount of non-biodegradable refuse. Therefore, some people argue that we have embarked upon a “兄谨throw-away” era when plastic rubbish is largely dumped indiscriminately and irresponsibly (this act is often labeled “white pollution” on account of the color of plastic wastes). Personally, I wholeheartedly support their view.
There are numerous reasons for this worrisome phenomenon coming into being. To begin with, at present the bulk of people who shop and/or eat out regularly are still poorly-informed, uninformed or misinformed about the pernicious influence that non-biodegradable pollutants exert on the ecosystem, which is the main culprit in the global-scale mishandling of the plastic wastes. The chief component of such trash is polythene, which cannot decompose on landfill sites over the process of the next hundreds of years if no major scientific breakthrough comes along in polythene treatment. Thus, such trash must be dealt with collectively rather than be scattered like tumbleweeds. Secondly, the proliferation of plastic shopping bags and eating ware is largely fuelled by the surging, headlong consumeri*. Plastic containers and utensils are lighter in weight, cheaper (often free of charge) in price and water-proof in performance. These superior properties make them preferable to their paper and cloth counterparts in customers’ eyes; and as consumer satisfaction reigns supreme in contemporary society, compared with superb portability, affordability and utility, how to dispose of them is the last thing the customers are concerned about. Additionally, plastic bags, wrap and containers are also commercially feasible since they are cheaper to manufacture, ship and store. These mercenary considerations also have prompted the good old cloth or paper bags to be supplanted by plastic bags but over the phasing-out process, few stores and restaurants advocate or encourage the use of environmentally-benign disposal of plastic trash, hence the whole slew of non-biodegradable garbage and environmental hazards ensue.
Given the scale and severity of “white pollution”, we must take immediate steps to address this scourge. In the first place, we must do our utmost to enhance people’s awareness of how persistent and devastating non-biodegradable trash can be to our environment and our posterity’s. Secondly, retail stores and dining establishments should spare no effort in encouraging their customers to reuse plastic packing items. Furthermore, indiscriminate and irresponsible dumping of household garbage or personal junk should be outlawed by the legislature and heavy fines or even jail terms must be imposed on those compulsive litterbugs who fail to get their act together. Then, on the part of the biochemical researchers and technologists, scientific research must be launched here and now in pursuit of effectual ways to convert non-biodegradable refuse to biodegradable refuse. Last but not least, the government must not shirk its obligations in mobilizing scientific resources and rallying popular support in the crusade against “white pollution”. Neither should pay just lip service to relevant research and campaigns if no enough funding can be obtained otherwise. Additionally, I am convinced a customer tax levied by the government on the use of plastic bags will also help to curb this massive “white pollution”.
The havoc non-biodegradable refuse can wreak on the ecosystem is beyond our imagination. It can eventually devastate soil, water and the aquatic and terrestrial biota. We must start combating this environmental catastrophe before the ecosystem irretrievably breaks down under the reign of the minute plastic debris.
